VISION THAT RESTRAINS

Are You Focused on Him?

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
(Proverbs 29:18, KJV)

“Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” (Proverbs 29:18, NIV)

When I was teaching my oldest son to drive, the first rule I emphasized was to keep his eyes on the road ahead of him. Too many drivers go off-course when they’re distracted by things happening on the sidelines, fidgeting with their radio, or texting while driving. I have to admit, I’ve been guilty of them all. Most of the times, I’ve been very fortunate.  But there were a few times when my car swerved, drifted into the other lane, or the tires met the road bumps that would startle me back to the road ahead of me.

It’s our vision that dictates our course. If we have no vision for our lives we wander aimlessly until we perish. And if our vision is filled with the wrong focus our lives head down the path to eternal destruction. It is the absolute focus on Jesus that enables us to navigate life and all of its challenges well.  It is when we stay on the narrow path that we reach the gates of Heaven.

To have a vision that dictates our course means to be restrained by that vision. It cuts off all other options and the path remains narrow. Vision gives life while aimless wandering causes our souls to perish. We are created to be guided by what we see.

What is your vision?  Do you have one?  Are you double-minded and therefore unstable in all your ways?  It’s time to recalibrate. Don’t look at your friends and family for approval.  Look to the only audience that matters. Don’t set goals for self-achievement or self-sufficiency. Depend on the Lord and let the Creator tell you why He created you. He knows your purpose and how you fit into the scheme of His Kingdom. After all, He designed you.

Let Him become your vision; drive directly towards Him. If your eyes are on Him, you will not swerve, crash or get lost in a detour. You will go straight into His arms. Did you know that’s exactly where you belong?  Yes, His embrace is our home—our destination. Let’s focus on Him and drive in our own lanes and arrive safely.
